Herbs For the Prostrate
Any of the following can be taken as a capsule or in a tea... in tea, the rule of thumb is a teaspoon of herb per cup of boiling water, steeped in a covered cup for 5 to 15 minutes.
The more scent to the herb, the shorter the steeping time need be. (Think of it that the stronger scented herbs have more volatile essential oil).
Bee Pollen - available in capsules
Chaparral - leaves used in a tea, 1 tsp per cup of boiling water
Damiana - 1 tsp leaves per cup of boiling water, cover, steep for 15 minutes, sometimes combined with Saw Palmetto berries, up to 2 cups of tea per day. (Note: this was considered to also be an aphrodisiac).
Echinacea - available in capsules or as tea, steep 1 tsp of the root in a cup of boiling water for 30 minutes (covered).
Garlic - available in capsules, or can be eaten , one or two cloves crushed and spread on toast
Ginseng* - capsules available, or in tea
Golden Seal* - capsules or in tea Note, since it is powdered, steep for 5 minutes, covered.
Juniper Berries * - tea 1 tsp crushed berries per cup of boiling water
Kelp - can be used in sandwiches or sprinkled in salads.
Parsley - Pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 tsp parsley, let stand 15 minutes covered, take 2 times a day (but not in the evening)
Rosemary - tea, 1 tsp herb per cup of boiling water
Saw Palmetto - berries in tea or capsules
Uva Ursi* - tea, 1 tsp herb per cup of boiling water
Note: those with * are often used in combination
